Harris County Sedation Dentistry
At Hamilton Family Dentistry, we do our utmost to offer dental care that goes above and beyond to exceed even the highest patient expectations, but despite our best efforts, some patients still need a little extra help remaining calm, comfortable, and relaxed during their dental procedures. For these patients, we may recommend sedation dentistry. If you’re one of the many residents of Hamilton, Manchester, and other nearby communities who suffers from dental phobia or anxiety, sensitive teeth, gums, or gag reflex, or you’re looking to complete several procedures in a single visit, we invite you to contact our team to find out more about how sedation dentistry can help you.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
The longest used form of sedation, nitrous oxide is still the most popular sedation option we provide. Commonly referred to as laughing gas due to the euphoric effect it has on people, nitrous oxide sedation is fast acting, safely administered under professional observation, and the effects wear away just as quickly as they set in, allowing patients to resume their daily routines right away. Nitrous oxide sedation is ideal for patients who:
- Have mild to moderate dental phobia or anxiety
- Have difficulty numbing with local anesthesia alone
- Have sensitive teeth, gums, or gag reflex
- Have a cognitive or physical impairment that makes care unsafe or uncomfortable
Oral Conscious Sedation
For those patients who have more severe dental phobia that makes it difficult for them to even leave home for treatment, oral conscious sedation may be a better solution. Patients take a prescription sedative at a predetermined time on the day of their procedure. This sedative allows the patient to relax and significantly reduces pain sensation. A trusted friend or family member should then drive patients to and from the office. During treatment, patients remain conscious, but feel very relaxed and most don’t remember their visit.
